Joanna Lo is in the final year of her architecture degree at the University of Western Australia. After she graduates, she hopes to spend a bit of time travelling around the world to look at different types of architecture (especially churches). Joanna enjoys reading, eating, digital drawing, photography and playing games in her free time. She is also an active choir member in the Perth Chinese Catholic Community at St Pius X.
Joanna is currently one of the Coordinators for the youth team. Her job is to assist with the overseeing and management of the team to ensure that everything is running smoothly. In addition she has a minor role in helping with social media, assisting where she can with graphics design. She is also one of the Youth Ambassadors from St Pius X to advocate for youth engagement in the Church. She believes that all teenagers and young adults need to be inspired and challenged in order to be well-equipped to participate with God in His ministries.
Ryan Gonsalves is studying to be a high school music and math teacher, and hopes to one day also teach RE and chemistry. Some of his main hobbies are reading, gaming and playing music.
Ryan works as a coordinator of the youth team, and youth representative for the parish council, so he makes sure that everything is running smoothly and on time, and deals with any issues. He is also responsible for representing the group to the wider church community during official meetings, and encourages our group to go to things like ACYF and Veritas, both major youth events that were really trans-formative for him.
Alida O’Brien is studying to be a high school music and science teacher. She enjoys playing music, baking but most of all doing taekwondo. This includes attempting to grade for her second Dan black belt in 2019.
Lawrence Lo is studying Mechanical Engineering and Business at Curtin University, and has a dream of becoming an engineer and working in the car industry one day. Lawrence is part of the Perth Chinese Catholic Community (PCCC) where he serves at mass regularly. He has experience working with youths as well as adults through this role.
Lawrence is the Treasurer of Quest youth, which involves managing the team’s finances. He also assists with the organisation of our events (which have included games nights, fundraising, as well as a soccer tournament), and also with the organisation of our special youth masses. Lawrence hopes to deliver his ability to the fullest in order for youths to become more engaged!
Events & Liturgy 📅
Jo-Xen Lam is an architecture student at Curtin University. He is hoping to travel around the world as an architect designing houses and buildings in different locations and climates. In his free time, he likes to stay at home watching movies and TV shows, relaxing with family, and going out with friends.
Jo-Xen works as one of the Events Coordinators of Quest Youth, which means that he takes part in the organisation of youth events, as well as occasionally being the MC for some events. He is also one of the Liturgy Coordinators and is responsible for assisting with the organisation of our special youth masses. Jo-Xen recently took part in GenFest, which was a two-week convention in the Philippines. At GenFest he learned a lot about the church and what it meant to be a follower of Christ, and also actively participated in teaching and looking after some of the poorer children in the village.
David Handojo is currently studying his final year of podiatry at UWA. In his spare time, he loves dancing, listening to and/or playing music (especially Ed Sheeran), and gaming.
David is the Social Media Leader in the team, which involves managing Quest Youth’s Facebook and Instagram pages. He has attended a handful of Youth Festivals such as VERITAS Perth and encourages our youth to get involved with the Catholic youth community to meet like-minded people. He hopes to guide youths in their faith and spiritual growth, and be a fun approachable leader.
